Are there any tips for keeping really long double hems straight? As you would find on the long sides of a curtain or table linens.

I use a rotary cutter to get my edge as straight as possible then do the first fold ironing as I go, then the second fold, pinning all the way.

Every time, it seems that every little wobble shows up in the finished edge. If the cut is not 100% perfect, then folding 1/4" then 1/4" (or 1/2" or whatever) can never be perfect. But then how to get a 100% perfect cut on a yard or more of fabric?

I am planning to blindhem (machine) these, but the question applies even if not.

Thanks in advance . . . a little frustrated with hems right now :-)

Tablecloths please notice there are 3 short pages to read:

Unlined Curtains, please notice there are 6 short pages to read: http://sewing.about.com/od/curtainsandwindowtreatme/ss/curtainpanels.htm

Double bottom hems are important, at least 4" or 5" if sheer, to make them look more professional and hang better, I do the sides little different than stated in above link but the link information should work for you..

Regarding the words 100% Perfect, Good Luck, Consider myself to be accomplished and precise ln completing my sewing projects, probably little OCD too, but “Not Perfect”.

    Hoping others have more input..

Thanks patti-r … I hadn’t found these two articles and they are both helpful. Onward with the curtain project!
