Burda Style For people who sew

I am going to be a bridesmaid in my friends wedding and the dress that I have is several sizes too big, it actually belongs to someone else and she cant make it to the wedding anymore so I am taking her place. But I can’t afford to buy the dress, so I want to wear it without altering it, and it is silk and I feel like even pinning it will damage it, it is so delicate. I’m trying to figure out how to “pin” it without actually pinning, maybe clipping it in someway? Are there any magic clips that i could use? Any ideas/advice? My hair is long so it will hide the back of the dress for the most part…

  I would not clip the dress. I am a costume designer speciallzing in dance clothing and anything temporary, like the clips, have a nasty habit of falling out or failing at the worst possible moment. I would look at taking the dress in and keeping all the extra fabric in the seams if it isn’t too bulky. This would allow the seams to be let out after the wedding. Yes it might damage the fabric but you certainly don’t want to upstage the bride by having the dress suddenly explode as you are walking down the isle.

    This, totally. And don’t think of just hand basting it either. If you want to wear it at all, it needs to be properly machine stitched.

  Depending on the style of the dres and how much excess there is would there be anyway of kind of tying a knot/knots in it so it looks like a rose and gathers the excess into drapes? I can picture it working if it was a flowy dress and you positioned them right but otherwise, as they say above, a trip to a sewing shop may be in order
