I thought about it, but aren’t most lining fabrics very thin as well? I’m worried that …
Well I’ve put the new zipper in and it’s a much better finish but I think that the fabr…

Why don’t you try lining it? You could use a contrasting color to make the burn out pop.

You need the zip. There’s no way around it, really – it has a centre-back closure, and obviously buttons aren’t going to cut it.
If you haven’t set it a zip before, don’t be scared! It’s really pretty easy.
1. Baste the centre-back seam (right sides of fabric together). I do a long machine-stitch in a contrasting colour to the fabric, to make it easier to unpick later on.
2. Iron the seam open.
3. Lay the zip along the centre back line, so that they are centred on each other. Hand-baste in place. (Note: you may be able to get away with just pinning, but I would advise basting)
4. Sew the zip in place. Down, over the zip, back up.
5. Starting from the top, Gently pull apart the centre-back seam and unpick it down.
Done!

I’ve made 2 CDD, I moved the zipper to the side for ease getting in and out the dress and also a better fit for me. I did this by cutting the back and front bodice on a fold and also the skirts too. I agree with the above post there is no getting away from a zipper with the CDD. Get hold of a machine zipper foot too.

I was thinking about doing that too. Did you use the lenght zipper as stated in pattern.
Thank you

No I didn’t use the length suggested as it would have been too long for a side zippper. I used a 12inch I had in my supplies but I pinned it in place and done a fitting to check I could get in and out of the dress etc, and then I cut it down to about 9-10inch. I then sewed the side seems and inserted the Zipper. There’s no rule on how long your zipper has to be it’s about personal fit and your taste. Good luck!

Try using a material with a comfortable stretch, and using elastic in the waist- would come out a lovely summer dress :) Of course with this you could do more width in the skirt so’s it is a flirty fuller piece.
