I just downloaded the raglan top pattern, but it has an extra piece (#24) that isn’t mentioned in the instructions. Maybe it was explained in the magazine version. Looks like it will make a ruffle, but for the neck, a flouce? Can anyone who’s tried this pattern help?

Why don’t you try lining it? You could use a contrasting color to make the burn out pop.

Is it this one? http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/raglan-shirt-022013 If so, scroll down below and it shows other members that have used the pattern to make the top (there’s one at least) so she may be able to help.
I’ll have a look in the magazine tonight if I remember, but sometimes they use the same basic pattern for more than one item (eg maybe you can make a dress too from this pattern if you elongate it) and the piece might be for that.According to the instructions, there are only 4 pieces – the front, the back, the sleeves and the strip to do the binding on the neckline edge but that piece doesn’t have a number, just the letter a.

Okay, the next pattern in the magazine has lengthened the front and back pieces to make a dress and it has a ruffle down the length of it down one side which = piece 24. :-)

Often times the magazine patterns will include pieces/lines to multiple variations. If this isn’t noted on the patterns detail page it can be found at the bottom left corner of sheet #1, in fine print.
Here is a link to the dress variation: http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/flounce-dress-022013
You can download the dress instructions from this page if you decide you want to user your pattern for the dress variation too :)
Enjoy!
