Hello! It’s time for a new regular sewalong.
We will work in outfits which will eventually all create a mix and match wardrobe. We will each choose patterns we like to make a whole outfit which we will put together on Polyvore and work on this outfit over the next few months. Then we will start on a new outfit.
Are you in? Yes? Wonderful!
Head over to Polyvore and create your outfit. To do this you must sign up first, then to add images from BurdaStyle you will need to add the Clipper to your browser, you will then be able to add any images you like to create your outfit. Once your image is saved you can then embed the image into your post here. Try adding your fabric choices or even accessories you may like to make to complete the outfit.
I’m looking forward to seeing this sewalong come to life :)

This is my first outfit, i’ll post an update with fabric choices as soon as i have decided on them. I’ll be going for autumn/winter colours such as greens, browns and oranges.

Just to clarify, you will actually make these items right? But how will the sew along work?

I will make my items, you will make your items which make up your outfit. This discussion board is for us to share what we are doing and ask for any advice we might need. I hope that clarifies :)

I’m totally excited to do this!
Are you creating deadlines at all? I work better under pressure. It would be cool if there were dates set up that you planned on posting each item from your outfit so everyone could try to meet them and share what they have.
Has anything like this been done in the past? I’d love to check it out if you’ve got links.

I mention this in my first post :
Head over to Polyvore.com and create your outfit. To do this you must sign up first, then to add images from BurdaStyle you will need to add the Clipper to your browser, you will then be able to add any images you like to create your outfit. If you still don’t know how then let me know and i’ll try to do a step by step with images later tonight or tomorrow.

Click on your finished image on Polyvore. In the right sidebar there is the option to embed, copy and paste this into a post here.
I will try to add a screenshot later tonight when i get home from work :)

Ok, see the link circled? It says ‘embed on your blog’ Click on that and copy and paste the code into a post here and it should show up :)

Can we use non BurdaStyle patterns?
Jan 13, 2010, 12.19 PMby chanelleaj
Whoo Hoo, finally figured it out, you need to create a collection not a set in order to have the embed options – thanks for your help nikkishell. Ok, the burda images are very limiting can we use patterns and images from other sources? Eg I have added a picture of a lace dress that I will use the “pete pattern”. Also I have included an image of a dress that I alrady have a pattern for or is this strictly for Burdastyle patterns?

We should mostly work on BurdaStyle patterns but if you want to throw something different in there then that would be ok.
Glad you figured it out.

How’s everyone going with their Wardrobe? I’ve cut out my jacket muslin so far. I’m wanting to base my wardrobe around the jacket as i think i’ll be wearing it often when the weather starts to get chilly. I MUST have the muslin made up for the Club meet next Thursday!

I’ve finished my JJ and just adding the finishing touches to my Kasia skirt, I wanted to photograph it this weekend but my partner is away and I need his help :) So hopefully I can get it up next weekend. I’ve started a Jenny too and another JJ but they don’t really go together which is great motivation for me to sew matching items for them :)

Hi everyone, I’d like to join, but first I want to know if I could use Burdastyle magazine patterns instead, I really don’t do downloaded patterns right now.I would also include some of my own self drafted patterns. Would this be okay? TIA Sewmodest

Items in this set: The Undies BookKnit Dress McCall’s M5752
McCall’s 5752 dress view B and pettipants from “The Undies Book.” I’ll use stash fabric for both. I planned on a brown textured knit for the dress, but it may not have enough drape. For the pettipants, light beige swimsuit lining material and stretch lace

Update: I am done with the Melissa Skirt. I got derailed from Plain is the Plan because I really wanted to participate in the Alabama Studio Style Contest and so my skirt didn’t quite come out as plain as I wanted. But that’s life. You plan and you plan and you plan and life is what happens when you aren’t planning. Here’s a link to the finished skirt. On to the tank for me.
Mar 10, 2010, 06.06 AMby amarie
Update: I decided to make another melissa skirt because I really need a plain black skirt and I had leftover material that was perfect for it. I’m thinking of ditching the leggings. It may not be very flattering on me is what I’m thinking. But I’ll see…..

I’m still going on my Jorinde muslin. I’ve had to make a few alterations, a slit in the back centre seam and i also changed the shape of the sleeve so it fit the armhole better. I’ll do one more check then get started on the real thing. I think i’m stalling a little because i’m scared to muck it up!
Mar 13, 2010, 05.04 AMby amarie
Someday I’ll try this muslin business. Seems like such a smart thing to do. I took a second look athe Jorinde jacket. It is very nice. If I didn’t have a warbdrobe planned I would have been seriously derailed. It’s good to have a plan to get me going. It’s so easy to be distracted by so many interesting patterns and projects to try. I have an idea for the Lydia tank though that if it pans out I will be really happy. I used to have tank that I could wear two ways: one side is scoop neck, the other bateau.

Nicely done! I love the fabric you chose for the JJ blouse.

So i managed to fit my muslin! FINALLY!
I altered the sleeve and added a vent at the centre back seam.
Now i’m all cut out in my expensive fabric and ready to fuse.

That’s looking super sharp even in teh muslin fabric :) I’m looking forward to seeing the real thing. I’ve just been brainstorming my next set of patterns, I’ll photoshop them up and share them soon :) I’m realyl enjoying this kind of wardrobe pattern planning, it’s keeping my new years resolution on track and helping me work through my fabric stash too (because if I can use up a bit of my stash before August then I can justify a nice long visit to Tessutis when I visit Melbourne that month, yay!)

Slow going here. I spent some frustrating evenings trying to tissue-fit my dress pattern. Now I’ve got a dress form in the making. I guess I should be happy, since making a dress form has been on my to-do list for a couple years now!
