I sort of got lost in the new website and can’t find my old post about my dress form. But, I purchased a Fabulous Fit Pro Series Misses 3/4 form and have started using it. It is the most wonderful sewing “tool”! I had a Marfy pattern (wtihout instructions) that seemed daunting on flat paper in 2-D. Just placing the pattern pieces on the form allowed me to figure out how to put it together. Fitting myself has turned from a nightmare (pin myself in, check myself in mirror, mark the fabric or leave pins in, rip my flesh as I slide out of the pinned garment, baste seams ,repeat) to a breeze. I used the special pads to recreate my front-curving thighs and low hip curve. The upper body matches mine EXACTLY! It has arms and collapsible shoulders plus stands firmly on a beautifuly, heavy steel base with locking casters.
My current project is to make a forties style dress from a copy of the old pattern envelope front. I am using my form to drape the dress and build myself a pattern. I have a book on draping but in fact, it almost feels intuitive using the form. I am using a cheezy pink gingham for the draping process to keep my grainline straight.
I feel as if my creativity has been unleased by this fabulous dress form.It really has opened up a whole new world and I’ve only had it for 4 weeks!
