I live in Toronto. I use public transit but I would love a sewing club.

I would love a BSC in Toronto too, I`m about an hour west of Toronto so it wouldn`t be too far.

I looked over at Meetup and the two sewing clubs that come up for Toronto: one is affliated with a sewing business and the other is a quilting group. So as far as I know, there is no BSC out here in Southern Ontario.
Any chance of making the club an Internet one and say have us each post a Burda project (from current or past issues of BSM/Burda Fashion) photo of an item we’ve made and some text between the 20th and 28th of each month on this thread? Some might want to do themes each month but I’d want to make myself sew a new clothing item or craft each month and be creative with what I do have on hand.
That way, no one would have to worry about transportation, making arrangements for dependent care, or fuss whether they have the money to show up or arrange a venue. This website would suit.
We can even go as far as naming ourselves the Golden Horseshoe (Ontario) Burda Sewing Group.
Your thoughts?

Hello staceyannec, Check out our BSC site here to see if there is a club in your area.
Happy sewing from your friendly Burdastyle moderator!

No BSC is on the club site for Toronto. Oh well, that was worth looking at. Seems there are BSCs meeting up in real life! Happy for them.

Would we like to start one? I don’t know how to make an internet club.
If I go to the next Creative Needlework and Sewing show, I am going to make up some flyers or card to put on their message board for people to come to the burda website or call me. This is the hugest collection of sewing enthusiasts around. Surely there are some Burda fans in that crowd.1 Reply

Contact David by sending an email to answers@burdastyle.com. Put BSC-DAVID in the subject line.
He will help you get started with a club and send you a club leader packet.
Keep sewing!

For anyone one interested. I did find a sewing club in Toronto at a church. It is a Christian group so there is a Christian focus. It is mostly women but a few men do come. So send me a message and I can get you a contact number.

Theres also a monthly sewing “stitch and bitch” at The Workroom on Queen west. http://www.theworkroom.ca/ They provide machines. It’s the evening of the second Tuesday each month (free quilting on the last Sunday each month). Message me if you’d like to attend and would like some company!

Melody1234, thanks for mentioning that there is another place in Toronto-did not know about this store/workroom. A few years ago, I was thinking ‘where is Toronto’s fabric store area’ and now I know it to be Queen St. W. Imagine, there is a Liberty of London fabric selection…oh wow, how I’d love to make my own shirt from a fabric in that line! Not too fond of the ready to wear items in stores.

It’s a really cute shop! I’m thinking of attending their free evening in April.

Did this get started? I’m in Toronto and would love to be part of a group of Burda Sewers here. If it hasn’t started, I’m pretty good with start ups and internet stuff or if anyone wants any help. Let me know…:)

I emailed Burda but have not received a response yet regarding how to set up a club. Therefore I’m setting one up an online one for all us Toronto area people and see if there is any response. I should have the site ready this weekend but the link will be: http://torontobsc.blogspot.ca/ If we get enough interest, we can arrange meet ups, I have some really funtastic ideas for this group if we can get people out. If anyone is interested or wants to help out, let me know…:)

I am from Barrie and would travel to hang out with everyone. I also would support a online group.
Looking forward to learning!

Hi Cassity, thanks for messaging. I started a meetup.com site today. I think it’s a better option as we can add photos, discussions etc there….you can check it out here: http://www.meetup.com/Toronto-Fashion-Sewers/ it will be both online and offline so all are welcome….:)

For the Burda sewers in the Greater Toronto area, I noticed that there will be a vintage clothing and textile sale at the Ontario Science Centre this Sunday. The sale is connected to another Toronto meetup group with vintage clothing interests. http://www.meetup.com/Vintage-Retro-Society-Toronto/events/102127492/
In May, the Textile Museum has its own two-day textile sale. http://www.textilemuseum.ca/join/volunteering.cfm

Shoot, I’m sad that I missed that. I’ll have to think about braving the Textile Museum Sale.
Has anyone seen the Marimekko Exhibit on now at the Textile Museum?
