A fairly light-weight but warm unlined coat. Used a lovely piece of vintage brushed cashmere from the stash. This was made in size 40, one size down from the size recommended on Burda chart according to bust size. In retrospect, I should have made the 38. The fit is very oversized. Also, I am 5’1" and while petites are usually too short for me, regulars are usually a bit too long. I recommend shortening this pattern about an inch at the waist if you are smaller. I’m thick in the waist so I added 6" length to the belt.
I used hem lace to finish the facing as folding under would have been too thick and I did not want an overlocked finish. This fabric does not fray really, but it adds a nice finish on the facings and hems.
I added a contrast pocket lining and CB topstitched panel for cheeriness and a little body in the CB (see pic). Also added a small chain so the coat can be hung on a peg or a hook.
After wearing, decided to add two more belt carriers to the side panels. It was near impossible to sew through all thicknesses and get a nice topstitch on these, so I hand-sewed from underneath to flatten them out.
