Description

A 50’s inspired dress for an annual Ball. I used a pattern from a magazine – made it in an old sheet – made alterations. I designed the bolero jacket myself. The petticoat was from Burda style. I used the width of the lace to run down the garment in order to make use of the scalloped edging – so in keeping with the 50’s.The dress is fully lined – but the bolero jacket bodice is self-lined – using the scalloped edge to make ruffles on the jacket.

Material Notes

Lace / net with silver flowers and polyester lining. Petticoat in net.

Can you believe that the lace was £1/metre !! I bought 5 metres as I planned to cut the dress out with the length going across the fabric – to use the scalloped edge. Plus I had enough to make the bolero jacket. Everyone commented on my outfit – mainly because of the striking Royal blue – so many wore black ( that was my first choice ! ) I am going to use the same pattern for a summer creation – watch this space ……
