So I got a new job last year in the very corporate arm of a large company and I just cannot restrict myself to black suits everyday while I see people from IT in t shirts and people from marketing in funky clothes. So I figured I need to stock up on some “nice” work dresses that will keep me looking business-y but without suppressing my love of colour and creativity
In my mums pattern stash I found Simplicity 7263 from 1976. it was a pretty simple pattern. the first go I made it a bit too small and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th I got the sizing to a comfy size.
It features 3 buttons on the yoke and a little tie waist. No zipper though, so you have to pull it over your head – hence why small sizing is not ideal!

Material Notes

I made this in a Green/Brown patterned cotton, green splotchy pattern, Seersucker (how good is seersucker?) and plain navy cotton.

these dresses are both beautiful and practical. I have the same problem with formal clothes – it is a bit borring. when I learn (I’m in the learning process at the moment) I’ll sew something like this for myself.

Definitely!! Sew sew sew! It’s so rewarding having well made clothes that you actually want to wear everyday.

love, love, love your dresses. Such a great illustration of the difference fabric choice can make. Dresses are such a great option for work and I love that you’re bringing a bit of your style to corporate office wear.

the dress pattern is amazing! Wow, I love your four interpretations, they are so full of personality. The fit does look like it has changed, but all look sweet.

Nice one! I’ve been using green like it’s going out of fashion, so maybe my spider-sense knew…!
