Waitress Apron

Parsons, Kansas,...

I created this waitress apron out of necessity during a short-term waitress job! I made several different ones with other fabrics. I made several for my adult daughter (co-worker) in bright, modern designs. The panel against my clothing consisted of three layers of fabric not only for more protection for my clothing (pen/condiment leaks), but to lay heavily against me. I added flannel (see notes) between the cotton layers for absorption. The shorter sections – I sewed the seams for the pens BEFORE adding to the larger layer. Then I sewed the outer two “pen seams” through all three layers up to the top of second hem to create three compartments on the large layer. I kept straws in the taller back section along with order pads and extra napkins. Condiments were kept in the front side pockets. I created extra long ties to wrap around to the front to tie. My daughter clued me in that a few of the feisty, older men liked to tug at the tie if tied in back! I just used plain fabric to create my finished edges.

Material Notes

100% cotton. Layer of flannel for middle layer of large panel. All fabrics pre-washed and dried several times before cutting so that puckering would not occur at seams.
