Vunk - Vintage meets Punk

I came up with the idea of a dress inspired by two completely different designers for my Art & Design coursework. I’ve always been a fan of Cath Kidston’s vintage designs, I think all her creations are classy and sophicated, yet they have a certain twist to them, giving them a unique look. My punk inspiration was Vivienne Westwood – I don’t think I really have to explain her amazing, controversial and legendary 70’s punk style do I? So there is my idea, a dress inspired by Cath Kidston and Vivienne Westwood. I wanted the two styles together to be striking, yet successful together. – To create 1 new style.

Material Notes

I chose to make up the dress first in a floral print cotton, then I sewed two pieces of tartan (1 for front, other for back) to the dress in a black zig zag stitch, this was to add the effect that the two completely different fabrics had been forced together.

I added sliver studs to the left shoulder and gold safety pins to add another punk element, and the ribbon belt to add to the vintage style.
