Vogue Kimono Maxi Dress - V9253

Added Jan 18, 2018

by ronnielee

Sydney, Australia

Misses’ Deep-V Kimono-Style Dresses Semi-fitted back zipper opening, attached self-tie and length variations.
My turn to get on the bandwagon and make the most popular pattern for the summer. So many fabulous versions out in the stratosphere. I made the modest version by closing the center front up by about 6 cm. Omitted the bias binding and made facings for front and back to give more structure particularly around the neckline. Bodice came a bit too high so I added extra length for a better fit.

Material Notes

5 mtrs cotton
Invisible zip

I didn’t have to tweak too much for fit but did extend the bodice 1". Not often I have good pictures (generally selfies in my bedroom). A def fun dress to frolick around in! Cheers.

This dress is timeless ! I love that cut . How did you alter the bodice ? Did you alter the bodice because of bust size? I am trying to find dresses that are more flattering for larger sizes . It is hard as a beginner to even figure out which pattern may be easier to adjust.

Looks gorgeous, do you recommend the cotton? I like the shape it keeps!

Not often I make a muslin but thank god I did.. I’m a 38 “bust and have a low bust point. Pattern has a lenghten or shorten line, I added an extra 1” and length came spot on.
Many fabulous makes out there made with rayon, jersey, satin. It’s a hog for fabric, about 4 mtrs. I found this %100 cotton and feels so nice on the body. Summer in OZ has been a killer! Go for it! Cheers

Thank you for your suggestions for tailoring, I believe I have a similar figure. It will be nice to be able to tailor in a more efficient and exacting manner when I get more proficient.

Stay cool -- the news reports regarding the heat in your parts have been tremendous !

HNY Mary. I don’t know one week to the next what style I’ll be wearing!!!! I’m a 40’s gal one week the next 60’s, 70’s. How great is it making your own garments? Fabric worked well. Cheers xx
