Vintage polkadot dress

This is my very first project!
I made it trying to copy a dress I once saw in a secondhand shop that was too damaged tu buy. It ended up not looking much like that dress, but it ain’t a fail either, it looks more vintage than the original one, haha.

I had no patterns neither did I have the dress I wanted to copy or anything similar, so I just started imagining, drawing and putting pieces together until I got something that kind of worked.

It took me some time and tries to figure out some things, but I think it’s an easy dress to make for us beginners :)

Material Notes

Pink polka dot viscose, pink satin lining, black elastic band on the inside of the waist, pink zipper on the back.

Spring, Summer, Fall
Garment Type
Casual, Vintage
Rayon, Satin

In the pics I’m in a mini desert on southern Gran Canaria, a beautiful place full with photogenic dunes :) My flatmate made the pics, you can see her beautiful photos on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/27135859@N07/

And I’m so flattered you like it! Makes me wanna sew non-stop! Unfortunately I haven’t done anymore since, and right now I’m quite busy, but as soon as I get some spare time I’ll give my machine something to chew on :) Thanks guys!

i’m glad you like it :) i made it last may, when the warmth was arriving and i could only think about the sunny days that were ahed.

can’t help much about how to make it, isabelita, seguramente te puedas imaginar como hacerlo sin mi ayuda. it’s two pieces: the skirt is an enormous circle (well, two, because there’s an underskirt as well), and the top is one piece cut to fit my front and run downwards on my sides to meet in the back, where the lace that goes behind my neck ends and is tied in a bow. hmm… it’s not easy at all to explain a dress haha

On the pictures I’m wearing a belt that covers the seams were the top and the skirt are sewn together. It’s not that it’s ugly and has to be hidden, I just liked the dress better with the belt :)
