Description

For my Vintage modern entry I played with the bed jacket pattern to create a cropped jacket which fresh and bright to welcome in the spring. The fabric is papillon linen with a fun bug pattern all over, great for warm days with a vintage theme.

With a vintage theme the jacket is reversible, having the advantage of two jackets for one.

  • I liked the simplicity of the bed jacket pattern so kept it as a 3 piece pattern.
  • It was a little too baggy so I added some darts to the front,
  • Took excess in the back and topstitched the contours,
  • shaped the sleeves slightly

*I love vintage pieces finished with bias binding, so this is how I completed my jacket with bias I made from silk taffeta, and a few scorched fingers from the steam iron

Material Notes

bug print papillon linen, metallic green silk/cotton mix and black silk tafeta for the bias binding

Hi, thanks for your message. I have done a little pattern cutting before but did find it a little confusing and had to leave then come back to it later.
When I had the basic shape a made quite a few toiles changing the shape of the sleeves and trying to reduce the the bulkiness with darts and then taking in the back. Must admit it wasn’t the easiest and after thinking about it for ages left it to the last minute and made it up on the last day. Pheww that was tough going need to leave myself a bit more time next time.
