Vest in Palestinian style

Added Jan 29, 2017

Asker, Norway

My sister wanted to cross-stitch her own Palestinian vest and had been asking my mom to do the sewing for a long time, but my mom didn’t feel like it. Then I went on a vacation to visit my family in Egypt and the request was made to me instead, and since I normally have little to do while I’m there, I said yes :)
We chose the pattern that I printed, cut the fabric pieces out and basted along the seam lines as a guide for the embroidery.
My sister Basma did all the embroidery work, then I sewed the vest finished.
I cut all pattern pieces twice, to fully line it.
I think it looks great with jeans and a T :)

Material Notes

Polyester satin with non-shiny side used as right side

Spring, Summer, Fall
Garment Type

On behalf of me & my sister: Thanks a lot Mary :)
It’s very simple to cross-stitch, but requires some patience when placing the pattern on a garment that’ll be worn.

Maria what a beautiful west, I like your embroidery very much . This is great ethnic project. Suits your sister great . I was thinking lately to sew a dress for Spring/summer which will have some embroidery in the bust/neck area. But i have to exersice first , i am new in this.

Thank you Maria! Will tell my sister :)
Cross-stitching is easy, you’ll get the hang of it quickly, but it can be time consuming…

Tell Basma that she has just given me a great idea for my next project. I’m not sure I can copy this technique but I’ll try something similar from my culture which is actually surprisingly close to this! Thank you!
