Ukrainian Embroidered Linen Crop Top and Skirt for Easter

Added Apr 6, 2015

by Marusya Grace

South Bend, Unit...

I’m excited to share with you my Easter outfit! This is the fourth year I’ve made an Easter outfit (inspired by my babcha and Ukrainian heritage).

As soon as I saw 02/2015 #121 and #127 Crop Top and Skirt patterns in the Burdastyle magazine, I knew I had to make it for Easter!
However, my linen didn’t arrive until 2 weeks before Easter!!! With this said, my mom saved me and helped with some of the embroidery!
The embroidery designs are from Ukrainian embroidery books I purchased from Ukraine. Each strip of embroidery is about 20 stitches wide.

I adjusted the back of the skirt. Instead of a 45" wide piece of linen, my back skirt is about 20" wide and gathered to 13 inches.

Overall, I love the crop top and wish I made the skirt with a different material.

It is just perfect… a real piece of art, your babcha would be very proud of you. I admire the way you use Ukrainian traditional embroidery for the modern outfits.

I love how you have incorporated your Ukrainian history into your sewing. It inspires me, because I have been wanting to do the same since I started sewing. My Baba and Dido were both born and raised in Ukraine, and I love their rich heritage – the the traditional foods, the music, the clothing, the dancing. Your picture in the the church with the basket reminds me of many past Easters :)

Beautiful outfit, I love your embroidary skills. The top is fabulous and looK’s great with the skirt. I once made a coat that looked great but I couldn’t really move my arms much because of my fabric choice lol x

Thanks Mary! Lol I can’t move/sit in the linen skirt if I want to avoid the linen from wrinkling :)

This is stunning. The Heritage-infused embroidery makes this so special. Well done on both pieces!
