Tulle Skirt - Sex In The City Chic

I was asked by a friend to make her a Carrie-inspired multi layered tulle skirt for the day at the races. My friend was around 13 weeks pregnant at the time, so I wanted to create the skirt so that it was still comfortable to wear as the baby grows.

Usually I would make the skirt and put an elasticated waist, this time I decided to leave a V opening at the back of the skirt, which was concealed once the layers were sat together and the waistband was tied in a bow.

I must say, this skirt took a lot of hard work……it consisted of 7 layers in total…..dusky pink lining, 2 layers of white tulle, 1 layer of pink net, 2 layers of white tulle and then the final layer of pink net on top. Each layer of tulle / net was ruched together to create a “full” look; I then added the waistband using the same material as the lining. The waistband has extra fabric at the end, so that it can be tied in a nice big bow.

9 hours later and I was very happy with my creation and I’m glad to say that my friend was too.

I’m sure I’ll make another one for myself (once I’ve got over the stress of doing this one haha).

Like your version of skirt and how you concealed the gathers with the ribbon.
