Trapeze shaped swing dress

Added May 17, 2016

Syracuse, New Yo...

This is my first dress ever. I did it using New Look pattern 6340.
It is a trapeze shaped swing dress. I chose to do the sleeveless with notched neck and pockets version.
Overall it was easy to make or at least as easy as it can be for a beginner :-). I modified it by adding a braided pearl trim on the edge of the neck and pockets as I found the color of the fabric a bit too plain in the end. I also didn’t put the strap the pattern suggested. The fabric is on the firm side and it didn’t look good. I am very pleased with the result and it gave me the confidence to do future projects. Cheers!!!

Material Notes

I used a suiting, linen-like brownish fabric I found at JoAnn’s. I washed very well but I noticed when I ironed it on the cotton setting, that it was a bit too high for this fabric.

This is beautiful! I love how you got the length perfect! So many women make a fabulous dress and get the length wrong, and you got it spot on. Just enough to show off some gorgeous summer legs, but still look well put together. The trim is such a great touch and the color – I would never have gone for it, but wow, you make it rock! I think I might browse that section the next time instead of passing over it so quickly.
