TImeless Classic: My take on Trench

Added Dec 6, 2015

by bellifontaine

Fontainebleau, F...

Trench has been on my «things to sew» list for a while now. This fall, despite the plunging temperatures of the early September, I decided to give it a try.

My points of departure were deep bluemarine colour, shiny gold buttons and a military feel of the future trench.

My trench is based on the pattern of Maxi Coat from BurdaStyle for 2013. When cutting the fabric I made some corrections for my height and made the top part longer by 2 cm. I added flaps in the waist seams just above the gathered skirt of my trench and the pockets are situated in the side seams of the coat. For that redingote or military feel, I created a front panel that is attached to the right side and closes on the left side with sew-on snap fasteners. To design this detail I used the shoulder darts as my starting point.
For the lining I took the left-overs of a gorgeous silk that I also used for the lining of my Camel Coat. For the sleeves of the lining I bought some matching bamberg of bluemarine color. The buttons completed the picture.

More on this trench and my inspiration in my blog http://www.katyasgallery.blogspot.com

Absolutely gorgeous, I love the feminine gathered waist in contrast with the military-type feel. It truly is a gorgeous coat, I can’t believe you made it!

I love your blog! Love the photos and the clothes. That dress your mother made your daughter with the hand stitching (pale blue/crisp white) is extraordinary. I’m also obsessed with that dress with the pin tucks (the fabric, wow!), that you wrote you originally made for a maternity dress. Beautiful.
