I love this 50s style with a little modernizing. The style is from November 2012 issue. The front tucks on the dress gives it a very slimming look and the high funnel collar and front slit draw the eye to the decolletage.

I modified the style by using a flare skirt that is longer in the middle front and back and is shorter at the sides. The hemline is embellished with a white lace.

The style requires a stretch wool fabric but I used stretch velvet instead because I was unable to get the wool.

Velvet is really not my thing because it is not an easy fabric to work with. Despite the challenges I am totally pleased with the look and the style.

I really like your version of this 50’s pattern. I guess you live in a country where it doesn’t get too cold in the winter, just like where I do in Brisbane, Australia and I wouldn’t use wool either. So the stretch velvet was a beautiful replacement. I think you have given this pattern a totally new look with the velvet and it looks great.

Thanks Schnui…I live in Jamaica…in the winter it is cold but not too cold., so using wool would make me too hot in the day. I bet Australia is nice and beautiful
