This Ain't No Sock Hop Circle Skirt

Added Oct 8, 2011

by aluckmann

Minneapolis, Uni...

A circle skirt made for Casey’s sew along. Skirt is finished with a lapped zipper and rolled hem. I really wanted this skirt to be more than the “Poodle Skirt” I wore to elementary school sock hops, so I picked out this lovely wool silk blend to make up the skirt in. Then I tested out several pairs of shoes to match with the skirt.

For more, please stop by my blog.

Per the request of another BurdaStyle member, updated this project with some pictures of the hem.

Material Notes

Wool silk blend, zipper, hook and eye closure.

Very nice skirt! I love the length too. Can you upload some pictures showing the hem finishing?

Redsonia, thanks for the compliment. The length came together at the last minute, as I getting ready to finish the hem I thought the skirt was looking matronly. I shortened it a bit and that did the trick! I will do my best add some pictures of the hem.

Okay, I added two pictures of the hem finishing. It was the best I could do as my camera is not very high quality and the thread blends in really well with the fabric. If you are looking for how to create this hem, there is a link on my blog post to the tutorial I used. Hope this helps!
