The Yee-Haw Rodeo Shirt!

Added Dec 10, 2011

by Cynthia Froman

Portland, Oregon...

I used a vintage McCall’s pattern (6383) from 1978 to make a western shirt for my husband’s Christmas present. The yoke, front bands and cuff are cut on the bias to add visual interest. had a lot of sewing “firsts” with this little shirt. Since this was a gift I really wanted to take my time and do everything right. Flat-felled seams, cuff and sleeve placket, and pearl snaps were all attempted for the first time. More details and photos can be found in my blog DapperDuds

Material Notes

I used some soft orange plaid cotton flannel from Joann’s, white piping, and pearl snaps.

Very well done. The piping’s a cool detail. I’m about to make my boyfriend a plaid flannel shirt, too, and I’m nervous about the packets and cuffs. We’ll see!

Lucky man! My husband loves shirts like these too. I’ll have to track down that pattern.

It wasn’t very difficult at all, I ran into problems with the sleeve placket, but i’m still a novice. I’m sure yours would look great!
