The last summer dress for 2016

Although autumn is here and I knew I won’t really get much chance to wear this this year, I really wanted to make this dress now!
The pattern was definitely not love at first sight, the emotions moves from yikes! to blah! to I love it! Which led me out to the fabric stores and this nice light blue piece.
Construction wise, given I bought non see through chiffon, I eliminated the middle layer of fabric. I’ve redone the front yoke twice! I managed to fold the folds inside out, undo them then sew along the wrong lines, then finally cutting the two pieces out again and finally getting it right the 3rd time, and since it’s chiffon I used for main fabric and lining, it was a bit of a pain getting them lined up properly, but once this yoke was done and lined, the rest went like a breeze.
It’s a very summery dress and wasn’t exactly the perfect thing to wear to a nice dinner in very autumn-like Trondheim, but I so wanted to! Solved that problem with a little belt and a blazer on top, as I found out it looked great with a belt on as well!
I love it! I’ll take it to Egypt in a couple of weeks to get a chance to wear it again and will look forward to next summer to wear it more :D

Material Notes

100% polyester chiffon with print as main fabric
100% polyester thin plain chiffon for the lining.

Garment Type
Romantic, Casual

Wow this is great! I think I’d prefer it with the belt…But in general I like it a lot on you! I’m considering on making this dress using a shirt fabric..what do you think? Any advice?

Thank you :) I wear it with the belt normally. I think shirting fabric is a good idea, it’ll help you get those V-neck pleats crispier, mine are slightly wobbly, you probably don’t need three layers like in the instructions and will get away with two like I did, but I do recommend to sew the lining, I think it holds those same pleats more in check :) I don’t know how tall you are, I’m 166cm, so if you’re a lot shorter or taller you might want to consdier adjusting the skirt length. Other than that it’s a straight forward sew and I was happy with the result. Looking forward to seeing your version :)

Impressive job! I have the same emotions with this dress and can’t say I am already ready to make it but your variation and patience deserve the best sewing award. You have a romantic relaxed look in the dress and it is surely comfy:-)

You look gorgeous with this! I understand how difficult was sewing process, cuz I did the dress using this pattern too. But your one is MUCH better. My product was TOO big and REALLY heavy (I’ve used wrong fabric for lining) that’s why it is on charity now ) Hope, someone will need it )

Thanks so much Luda! Yup, it does need as light a material as possible. Sad to hear you didn’t like yours, maybe try again later? ;)

Maria, you look great in this dress and personally I’d wear a dress like this in spring and autumn as well, probably with a pair of tan boots and a jacket, something like that. The fabric is gorgeous, too! :)

Thank you so much! Spring and autumn yeah, it’d work, too bad our autumn has just turned to single digit temperatures :)

Maria, to tel you the truth i don’t like the unbelted version but with the belt on the dress completely transforms and it looks fantastic on you. that is just my opinion, hope you don’t mind!

Of course I don’t mind Aida :) I think it looks more chic belted too, but I still love the breeziness of it unbelted.
