The Duvet Dress

I made this dress out of an old double duvet I had lying around, and I just loved the fabric. It’s soft, light and a simple pattern – perfect for a summer dress. It’s been worn and loved, I’ve just taken an age to get the project on here.

I based it on the Burda Style 02/2011 Bustier pattern, just adding a full circle skirt (this is my absolute favourite pattern on here, It has been the base of so many items I’ve made, and there’s another one brewing…).

I put bias brinding round the hem, so as to not have to make it any shorter (and yes, I know it’s a wee bit of a choppy hem…) and I ommited the straps, although as my size goes up and down like a yo-yo I’m debating adding a halter neck strap for security sake.

BUT the best bit about this dress is that it was a reversible duvet, so I have another dress cut out and ready to sew together. Can’t wait!

Apologies its taken ages to see this!! Do you work out a way to do it in the end? I’m afraid I’m not a very technical sewer and I do a lot of fudging but I’ve used this pattern four times now and each time it’s come out a little better!!

Love this fabric! Old bedding is my favorite source of yardage, so it makes me happy when other people recognize its potential as clothing. Great job turning it into this dress!

Oh it’s fabulous! And I’m so impressed that you made it out of a duvet cover. Genius! Thanks for sharing :)
