Description

I just got back from a wonderful tropical vacation and couldn’t wait to post my cover-up. I haven’t even unpacked yet! There are lots of swimsuit cover-ups out there in everything from knits to completely sheer fabrics. I wanted something that would provide just a little sheerness, be very light weight, not look completely wrinkled all the time and provide enough coverage in case I got too much sun. I guess that’s a pretty tall order because I never found one. So I made this one for my trip which turned out to be exactly what I wanted.

I used a very old pattern I had – McCalls 5781. I gave it a man’s shirttail styling and 3/4 sleeves. They have small turn-up cuffs. When I have time, I’ll post photos of that. I also added the front tucking myself. The fabric is a krinkle cotton, embroidered and embellished with silver threads. Besides keeping me cool, (the fabric is tissue light) when it got wet it dried in minutes. It was the perfect thing to slip on for lunch at the resort restaurants after a swim.

If you have good eyes, yes, that is a custom fabric label inside the collar. I make my own with my printer. If you haven’t discovered how to do this yet, click on the link in “credits” for free instruction. The labels are easy to make and I love that you can create any design and make them any size.

Thank you for your comment. Sometimes the design comes first. But this time, the fabric was my inspiration for the style of this garment.
