Super Spinning Dotty Dress!

Added Jul 5, 2012

by bethmaryharley

Singapore, Singa...

I made this dress for a wedding in France and had great fun spinning around in it! This dress is almost exactly as described in the pattern, except I shortened it (because I didn’t buy enough material…), didn’t use an invisible zip, and didn’t topstitch the front to make it more adjustable. I got very confused by the instructions and ended up finishing it the night before, but once I understood where to sew the front seam, it worked out okay! Please let me know if I can help at all as I think I have unpicked every stitch at least twice! I’m planning to make another one for a festival because this dress looks super cool with wellies!

Material Notes

Soft cotton lined with muslin

Summer, Spring
Garment Type
Casual, Preppy

Thank you! I had to do some rather hasty hemming before the wedding, but I think it came out okay!

We are clearly smarter! I think there are all kinds of crazy bugs at this festival (it’s in the mountains). but it does get pretty hot too, so I think it is the best idea!

The dress looks great on you! I really like the fabric you used. I actually have the pattern on my sewing list, so I might get back with you for advice;-)

You are very kind! Thank you! It’s actually a lot easier to make than it looks, but the instructions are a bit confusing in parts, so please let me know if I can help at all. Can’t wait to see your version! :)

Thank you! I ummed-and-ahhed over it for a while too, but it turned out a lot better than I could ever have hoped! It’s lovely and airy which is great in this very humid country! You should definitely make it!

this is lovely and nicer than the burda one i think. most of the time i find burdas instructions hard to understand so i just figure it out myself. it helped that my friend started me of with polish burdas so i had to just look and so sew lol. xx

Thank you, Mary! You are really very kind, but there are many mistakes, I think! Totally agree about the instructions, but I had thought it was just the way my brain worked, so it’s nice to know I’m not alone! Burda in Polish sounds even more scary – how clever you must be!

what i love about making my own clothes apart from the compliments lol is the fit. i.m tall with broad shoulders but narrow hips so buying dresses usually meant altering them anyway.i.d look at clothes and think hummmm i could do this so much better!!the fact that women ask me where i bought my dress just makes my day.i look forward to seeing your next project xx

Dein Kleid gefällt mir sehr gut. Du willst es mit Gummistiefeln tragen? Warum nicht? Probiere es einfach, ich finde das eine sehr witzige Idee. grüße :-)
