Summer Sewing Challenge- Swing Dress!

Added Aug 4, 2012

by Scary Merry

Concord, North C...

A dress I made with some beautiful Asian fabric I had. I have a very vintage style and I intended to wear this dress swing dancing (which I did!). I was sort of going for a South Pacific vibe and made an obi-style belt to go with it.

Also of note! This is the first dress I ever made and the first thing I ever made from a pattern! I had been sewing for about two and a half weeks when I made that dress (I’ve been sewing for three weeks now :D).

Material Notes

I used upholstery faux leather vinyl for the belt! It only cost me $1.75 at Hobby Lobby. :D

Don’t forget to link to the pattern you used in order to qualify to the competition.

Thanks for letting me know the pattern wasn’t linked! I had linked it before, but for some reason it didn’t attach properly. -_-U

      Fixed it now!

Thank you! I’ve always been a very crafty person and I make some pretty fancy jewelry, so when I started sewing, I couldn’t content myself to just sew simple stuff. I made a circle skirt, a purse, and then I was like, “Ok, time for a fancy pattern dress!” XD

Thank you! I wish I was able to get a better picture of the pleating on the front, but it’s not very obvious with the print. I’m super proud that I was able to figure out how to do that and the facing by myself. :D
