Summer Helena Skirt for Sunny Days!

I saw the Helena skirt on here and thought I would give it a go. It is the first time I have made myself something to wear, I have made a few accessories and baby clothes for friends but I am trying to be brave and do something for me now!

I had to adjust the pleats a few times after I pinned them to get them right, as they do determine the way the skirt hangs and how tight it is! Once I got that done it was relatively easy to decipher! I used the automatic buttonhole stitch on my machine for the first time which was very exciting! I do think however that I messed up somewhere as it is very wide on my hips, so sticks out a fair bit and makes me look a bit weird…it could be my fabric, oh well!

Now I am off to frolic in the sun! :)

Material Notes

1.5m by 1.12m of fabric from Spotlight, interfacing, 10 buttons, contrasting thread.

I recently just made this one too! I had to alter the pleats to get it to fit on the waistband. And my machine completely ate my 2nd button hole I was trying to do cause it didn’t like how thick the waistband was and I ended up doing all my button holes horizontal. I used the automatic button hole option as well and I think it’s just so easy I wouldn’t bother trying to do it normally.

Ah that’s a good idea! I had trouble with my second button hole too! I had to re-do it, but then it was OK the second time. Love the fabric you used on your skirt, what a bargain!

It is very nice, and it actually looks good on you! I am a novice too and I am still struggling with the buttonholes!

Thank you! Keep going with it, the button holes took me a while but I got there in the end, can’t wait to see your finished skirt!
