These were two outfits I created for the end of year show in my college. As first years we aren’t required to draft our own patterns so the dress on the left is just a version of Simplicity 2444 in blue floral cotton.

The dress on the right is a mish-mash consisting of the bodice from Newlook 6723 and the Burda Linda skirt with an added thick waistband made of yellow and blue floral cotton. The Linda skirt is a great stand-by pattern to have as it goes great with any number of bodices and is a fab cut for us big hipped girls ;)

The only thing to check if you decide to give this a go is that your waistband measurement (minus Seam allowances) on the Linda pattern is the same (or very nearly so) to the waistband measurement of your bodice (also minus the seam allowances).

If the Linda is a little to small or too big just adjust the side seams on both pieces.

Also, if you need to accommodate a centre back zip as I did, you need to cut the back panel of the skirt as two 1/4 panels rather than on the fold and add a seam allowance to attach the zip to.

I also added gathered layers of tulle to the underskirts of each dress to give a flirty fifties feel to the dresses. I simply cut lengths of tulle into 1/4’s and then folded these in half, stitching the folded edge onto the lining hem, with the tulle sitting in the space between the skirt and the lining fabric.

Most of the accessories came from my own wardrobe, Pennies (primark in the UK) and New Look.

I did have another picture up but it seems to have disappeared! I’ll try to add it again. Unfortunately my camera didn’t work on the night so I only have three shots of the two outfits and one is out of focus :( Oh well, better luck next year!
