Striped blouse

I got the inspiration for the pattern from an old book about peasants´clothes, and I am very proud of having constructed the whole pattern myself. The blouse has pleats from the shoulder down on the front, widened sleeves, a broad stand collar and just as broad cuffs. Many buttons in matching color (pink). I made a mistake in sewing the front buttonholes horizontally, but actually I think it doesn´t look so bad.

Next time I´ll choose a heavier fabric for a more old-fashioned look, and maybe I´ll add pleats on tha beck piece as well.

Material Notes

Shirt cotton

Swea from Urshult (author of the book), for the inspriration!

My sewing instructor in the fashion design department recommends sewing buttonholes horizontally, because they don’t gape when the garment is worn. Congratulations on designing your blouse!

I seem to remember reading in a sewing book that the buttonholes for front closures should be horizontal unless they are on a placket. I always do them horizontal because it seems like the fabric pulls in weird ways when I make them vertical. Anyway great blouse, I love the cuff and stand collar.
