Description

This was my first test with the serger my husband gave me for Christmas. I whipped it up for a party using a cowl-neck shirt I own as the base for the top. It’s made of a two-toned jersey knit that mimics the color of jean. I thought it could be reversible, but prefer wearing it with the dark side out and the lighter color peaking through in the cowl.

The best part, I think, is that it only took four seams: one along each side of the dress, and two tiny seams to secure the sleeves.

wow, that looks great!! could you maybe post the pattern online as well? I absolutely love the pattern ], and since I just bought a jersey with which I want to do the same, it would be really helpful! I saw another pattern on this website as well, but this design seems a bit different. Thanks so much in advance!

Glad you like it! Since I copied the top from another shirt, of someone else’s design, I’m not sure if I can really post this as my pattern. What is the other cowl dress you were looking at? I think what distinguishes this one is that it’s got a pretty wide cowl, and used the same pattern piece for the back (which is why it scoops so low in the back). Maybe I can try drafting another version of this, and posting that as my pattern. I’ll shoot you a message if I do that. Happy sewing!

i think charlotte is talking about ichigogirl’s cowl dress pattern here on burdastyle? i thought that was what you used till i read your description. if you elongated or widened the cowl part on this, maybe it would come out similar?

i love the two toned jersey with this, it makes the neck so interesting!

Hi Oonaballoon, I think you’re right that widening the top of ichigogirl’s cowl dress pattern would work perfectly for this (I like your version, btw).

So, Charlotte, I think if you did this and used the front pattern piece for the front and back it would look very similar to my version.
