Spring concert dress

London, United K...

I used Taffeta for this and although the material is light and easy to wear, it was very difficult to sew. Need either to have very sharp needle to get through the thin layers to make the each stich holes small, but if there are more than 3-4 layers together, then the needle broke..

Wow! this dress is amazing! I love it in this color, it is so feminine. BTW, in the German burda site, thay showed how this dress resembles Milla Jovovich Oscar dress: http://www.burdastyle.de/aktuelles/news/oscars-2012-die-glamour-roben-der-oscars_aid_4101.html

Hi Janul, what sort of taffeta is it? I think you can get all sort of kind these days and you should check it before you buy.
When I started sewing, I realized usual thick-ish needle was making a quite big stitching holes, so I changed it to Jeans needle, which happend to be thinner and pointier. But as I said above, it broke after stitching about 3-4 layers, so end up going back to the thick-ish general needle. After that then, it didn’t break.

Good luck, although it is a bit tough material, the way it moves around you is so good and light!!! So, it’s worth it!

Hi, thanks for advice! It´s a very cheap polyester kind of taffeta… So maybe there are going to be some problems with it. I guess I should practice on some scraps first :).

This Taffeta was quite cheap too.. it was £3 per meter, sort of thing – otherwise I don’t think I could spent on which might be rubbish for 6m!
It turned out very nice material, and please let me know when you finish your dress!!

thank you, haha, I´m very pregnant now, so probably I should wait with the sewing until I´m back to my “normal” shape :). I bought only two metres (I plan to make a short sleeveless dress), so it was cheap anyway :).
