Spoonflower Printed Dress

I had this dress planned for my March #burdachallenge2018, but I didn’t receive my fabric in time to complete it before the month was over – so instead I sewed it up in April for one of my makes! As soon as I saw this pattern in the 03/2018 issue, I knew I had to make it. I love the fun swinging silhouette and the neck tie bands.

Now let’s talk about the fabric! Did you know that BurdaStyle as part of the collaboration with Spout Patterns have their own signature prints? I used both our BurdaStyle Geo White on Black Print and BurdaStyle Feathers on White in Poly Crepe de Chine to create this garment. The prints looked amazing and I love how they work together in this dress. I’m now even temped to order some more – possible in the cotton ultra to create the top version of this pattern (#114B).

In terms of pattern modification, what I did was omit the sleeve cuffs to mimic the flouncy hem on the sleeves as well! I also like how this pattern can be styled as a long tunic over leggings or as a summery dress – I just wouldn’t advise wearing it on an overly windy day without some shorts underneath, haha!
