My first attempt at Colette Patterns free pattern download: The Sorbetto Top and I am very pleased with the result. I’ve got a few more versions brewing in my mind…
I used the remainder of the left over satin from The wedding dress project for my Sorbetto. The vintage crocheted lace trim I had bought at Sydney’s Stitches and Craft Show (2009), back when ‘The wedding dress project’ was just newly dancing into my imagination. Of course, I didn’t end up using even a quarter of all the lace trims that I bought, so I am very happy to finally put some of it to use. I used the lace trim on either side of the top half of the box pleat because I didn’t have enough to edge both sides of the entire length of the box pleat. That was a blessing in disguise because now I prefer the shorter lace detail as it gives the blouse a vintage, “bib” look. I also used the lace trim at the armscye to make lace cap sleeves. I used self-made bias tape to finish the inside edge of the lace an as armscye facing.
The pattern was easy to use and pattern instructions easy to follow. There are just two pattern pieces, bust darts, a box pleat detail down the front midline and no fiddly closures! The neckline and armscye are finished with self-made bias tape. I have a feeling that I will make may more projects from this pattern…
