Skater Dress With Low V-Neck

Added Jul 3, 2013

Grey silk dress, with a deep v-neck and a sheer mesh insert. The dress has a high waist, a skater skirt and a fitted top. To fasten the glass beads I used a little bit of sheer felt, that I glued to the beads through the mesh. I used a black, flowery ribbon to create some contrast.

No I’m sorry, I made this pattern by hand, but it was not that difficult. I didn’t use a pattern for the skirt actually, which is a skater skirt with dipped hem. I wanted to avoid having a seam, so I just measured the length I wanted the skirt to be and then cut it out right from the fabric. It’s very similar to this:

However, I made the inner circle a little bit bigger, so that I got all those folds around the waist. To make the top, I first made a pattern for a fitted boat neck top, and then I cut out the part that I wanted to be the v-neck. You might have to use some extra fabric or interfacing to make the neckline more stiff.

I folded the fabric twice, and used a smaller stitch length than usual. If the mesh was a little bit stiffer it would be enough to just melt the edge with a lighter :]
