Sailor Scouting for Halloween

Madison, United ...

I have a theory that geeks have the superpower to develop their mental gravitation field that draw other geeks into their orbit. My roommate and I along with one of our guy friends dressed as Sailor Moon (red), Sailor Mercury (blue), and Tuxedo Mask (not pictured) for a Halloween skate party a couple of years ago. I have to hand to these costumes: they look pretty epic with rollerblades. I used the same pattern just with different colours for the Scouts skirts and accessories, and the shirts are just cheap tees from walmart. Although the cartoon image called for more of a circle mini skirt, I stuck with knee length pleated skirt to maintain modesty. It was also while creating this project that I finally learned how to iron properly, taught by the custodian who happened to be passing the door at my moment of dire need.

Material Notes

For the gloves, I just stitched ribbon onto gloves bought in the children’s Halloween section (also cheap at Walmart). The boots we bought black at a thrift store and painted with acrylic paint.

Garment Type
Blends, Satin

They turned out great!! We recently introduced our five-year-old daughter to Sailor Moon, and she is obsessed. She’s a long haired blond and is always insisting on wearing the meat-ball style. She will be Sailor Moon or Sailor V for Halloween this year, she can’t decide.

Whee. Looks pretty crazy—and fun. I would have dressed the bigger one as Mako (Jupiter), though—she would have passed for it so easily!

It was totally crazy and fun! (I think I lost five pounds from the amount of sewing I did those last couple weeks). My friend would definitely appreciate the comparison to Sailor Jupiter!
