Ruffles Have Ridges

I swooned when I first saw this fabric, row after row of stretchy ruffles. I found it at the LA Fashion district for a steal but you can buy it online at Fabric.com. it comes 50" wide in many colors. I loved the richness of the cream. My mind raced with all the possibilities for it. Expect to see many more projects from me with this fabric. My first is this simple one that combines a 4" wide strip of ruffles and my favorite “V” neck tee shirt pattern in matte jersey. I found the matte jersey to match at my local JoAnns. I added ruffles at the sleeve cuff too. Click on “ruffles” in credits below to see how I adapted the pattern.

This might sound new to you (Ha!), but this creation is just GREAT! I always vote: less is more, so this is a perfect example!

I have been eyeing this fabric for so long on fabric.com, but it seemed a little bit too much ruffle. Why am I not surprised, that you came up with the best possible way to use it? Really lovely top, and you matched the fabric so perfectly!

Thanks Timi55! I confess I also felt it was a bit much and left the store without buying. But something told me I could think of some way to use it so I returned and bought some. The fact that it was so inexpensive there influenced my decision. Now I have so many project ideas for this fabric, I need to buy more!

Beautiful! I tend to stay away from ruffles because I’m not exactly young or small. This, I think I could wear! Isn’t it amazing what an impact a little detail can make!

This is such a good idea. I saw that kind of fabric but was not sure what to do with it. Most often you can see it as a skirt full of ruffles, which is fine for a girl but not so much for an adult. But your ideal is fab. It’s exactly the right amount of ruffels to very for the office as well as for a more special event. Thank you for the insperation. I might copy cat your idea.

You’re right. I could not get away with wearing a skirt full of these ruffles unless I was going to a costume party! Go right ahead and copy my idea and enjoy it. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks! I initially added only one row then removed them and added two. Turned out to have a more feminine look with two.

It’s a fabulous idea – I didn’t think to use the ruffled fabric as an embellishment. Thank you for the inspiration.

Love it. What a good idea to combine the ruffles with non-ruffles.

I’ve always been attracted to contrasting textures and this falls right into that category. I appreciate your comment.

Oh I like this ! The other day, when browsing some fabric internet sites, I actually came upon a similiar fabric and I though how great it looked, except I didn’t have a clue what to do with it. Having seen you project now, I might just go ahead and order some. Thanks for the inspiration ! Quite simple and yet very impressive !
