Rowenta Project Runway Remake Challenge Part 2

Added Sep 27, 2010

by max

West Texas, Texa...

I used the top of this black velvet dress to make a dress. I washed and dried it, used my Rowenta iron and needle board, pressed the wrinkles out the seams open. I embossed the velvet by ironing over randomly placed rope. I lowered the neckline on the front and back of the dress and removed the sleeves. I pressed 1/2 inch to the inside to finish the edges. The pink flowers on the sleeves had black centers and stained the flowers a pretty lavender ombre when washed. I used the iron to soften the hot glue that held the flowers, removed them and pressed each heart shaped silk petal open . I made interchangeable back sashes from bleached velvet and another with some of the original flowers encased in a tube of black tulle.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Marilynmd I’m not sure if the embossing is permanent. I had a piece of embossed velvet that I purchased but when I washed it the embossing washed out. (I wash everything!) :-0

Wow, you are impressively creative! And I really like the way you made it versatile with the interchangeable back sashes. Great work!
