Red Wool Shift Dress

Added Nov 23, 2014

Portland, Oregon...

This dress has been on my UFO (Un Finished Objects) rack for about a year and I have no idea why I didn’t finish it sooner. It is a simple shift pattern from Butterick 5211 view B. It is only a front and back pattern piece with an extended shoulder into a short sleeve, and a neck facing, There is also a self belt and pocket option for this dress, as well as a yoke and short puffy sleeve option included with the pattern design.

I made the back closure a short metal zipper instead of the button and loop closure the pattern calls for. I left out the pockets and self belt this time, but would like to make a version of this dress with those features.

I really like this pattern and got many compliments on it when I wore it to work and then later to my couture sewing class the other day. I will definitely be making this simple dress again, maybe in silk, linen, wool or other dress-weight material. I might also line it, and make an elastic waist for more shaping.

Find more photos and inspiration for this project on my blog “Ode to Sew”http://odetosew.com/2014/11/22/red-wool-crepe-simple-sheath-dress/
