Quilt for a winter baby

My friend is due to have her baby next week. I really wanted to make her something for the arrival of the new baby but due to lack of time and also no experience making a “real” quilt, this is what I came up with. It is inspired by TangerineSamurai’s beautiful creation (http://www.burdastyle.com/projects/charm-square-baby-quilt-ii)but with many many shortcuts.

I wanted to keep it gender neutral and have an organic feel to the colours. After sewing together the cotton side, it’s simply attached to a lovely fleecy back. No binding, no quilting. Measures about 150×100cm.

Material Notes

Cotton, fleece

Garment Type
Bohemian, Ethnic

Your fabric choice and design for this is really lovely. I agree with SmallOne – this is something that the bambino can treasure always without it having “baby” stamped all over it. Nice one!

Thank you! I was totally looking for something that would also blend in with the parents’ aesthetic.

I really like this! Such a lovely thing to do for a friend, too. I can see the inspiration of TangerineSamurai’s but you have made it your own with your colour choices and print styles.

this is lovely and the color choice and fabrics are really sophisticated without being too adult…hard to find nice baby stuff …sure that this will stand out in a see of pink/blue/yellow and that you’re friend will really appreciate it’s individuality

Thanks for your lovely comment! So true it is hard to find nice baby things. I’m so happy to be able to seek out the fabrics I love and pull something interesting together.
