Princess-tutu for Julia

Stockholm, Sweden

A princess-skirt for my 3,5 year-old niece, who dreads having to be the king at barnehagen (norwegian pre-school), she wants to be the princess, and who likes pink and purple best. All she wanted for christmas was princess-clothes, so I joined forces with my brother (her uncle) and this is the result.
The skirt is made from double layers of white, rather soft tulle, and one single layer of pink, sequined tulle. The waist-band is made with a bought bias satin-ribbon with a narrow strip of elastic in it.
Blogged with instructions to make it at Ancien-Nouveau

Material Notes

Tulle, satin bias tape, elastic tape, buttons

I love these tutu’s, they look fun and easy, luckily I have a 4 year old daughter who loves dressing up, will give it a go. Quick question, is the bought bias satin waistband adjustable?

I made it a bit flexible sizewise by adding elastic tape in the waistband (although I gathered the tulle for the skirt first), and I put two buttons on the waistband to make it a bit more adjustable. But the satin bias itself is rigid. I’d say I made the waistband about 10cm’s longer than her waist-measurement, and then used the elastic to make it her size.

Ok, you have given me the key to make another tutu for my daughter. The first and only one I made for her did not turn out too good. (did not turn out good at all!!!) Needless to say it’s nowhere to be found now. WOW. I think it found the trash.

You have a very lucky neice to have an aunt like you who’ll make her princess clothes like that! :) The picture of her in front of the tree is beautiful and very artistic. You inspire me to keep working on the tutu that I’m making for myself God bless you and your family :)
