Description

I was trying to make a Princess Daisy Dress for my toddler (based on the Super Mario Bros. Movie) but had a budget of $0. The white fabric and fabric-reactive dye were donated and I found this pattern online for free. I altered it slightly to give the skirt two seams down the front, like the costume in the movie. Once complete, I ombre-dyed the dress purple and added beaded trim around the neckline and arms (instead of the heavy EXPENSIVE strands of amethyst chips used in the film). Next time I’ll use a fabric with some stretch to it or add a zipper so it’s easier to get on and off, but I was working with donated supplies so I just made the dress a size bigger than needed and added ties to the side seams so it could be tied in the back once my daughter had it on.

Material Notes

Fabric reactive dye and cotton fabric from Dharma Trading Company.
Beaded trim from Amazon.
