Practice Shirt

I’ve been wanting to make my own shirts for a while and thought I would practice a bit before spending any money on material. This shirt is the result, it was a great practice piece because of the amount of top stitching involved as well as the varied range of techniques that are used throughout.
The Pattern comes from the excellent “The Great British Sewing Bee – Sew Your Own Wardrobe” book which comes with the pattern pieces.

Material Notes

Calico and quilting offcuts.

Spring, Summer, Fall
Garment Type
Casual, Beach

A nice shirt for summer or for fun by the beach. The pockets looks a bit oversized, but is outstanding for your first shirt. I love the print material. You should do a regular men’s dress shirt with that material. It will be very liberty of london or paul smith kind of look to it and would look terrific with a navy or navy pinstriped suit.

Congratulations … keep calm, and sew on Corey

Thanks Corey – I totally agree that the pocket is a bit large for the shirt, I followed the pattern in this instance but I think if I use this pattern again for a proper wearable shirt there will need to be some adjustments made:-)
