Petrol pants

I decided to make a pair of pants to match my bordeaux top, and I really liked this pattern in the magazine. With such leggings-like patterns there’s always the question of how this will look on someone 10cm shorter and 10Kg fatter than the model…but I went for it anyway.
One thing I didn’t pay enough attention too is the choice of fabric, I really wanted scuba for this but the choice was very limited and it only hit me afterwards that elasticity would’ve been a plus. What I actually made this off is French terry (a.k.a isoli) with 0% elastan, so I really hope it doesn’t acquire hanging knees too soon :s
The sizing was a bit weird for this pattern. I did my usual everything size 40 into a size 38 waist. The 40 bits fit like a glove, but the waist was way too big, so I took in a bit at the center back to make it fit. I also used light cotton canvas as facing for the waistband to avoid it stretching.
The top in the photos you’ve seen before :)
After the photos were taken, I went out in that outfit (and a cardigan) and the pants proved nice and warm at zero degrees :)

100% cotton French terry

I would never think the pants are made from not stretch fabric. Their fitting is perfect and they are made very neat. I could never make so well-fitting trousers. I am impressed and like both your job and your pants on you. You are a great match:-)

:D Thank you so much Oksana! These pants have proven to be a great idea. I love them! But they will develop hanging knees…

Very nice indeed, Maria, but I wouldn’t bend down too far in case they split! Always a risk when you use non-stretch and make it tight. I’d wear my best knickers, I think!!! :0

Hahaha! :D Well, it’s a knit, so there’s a tiny bit of stretch in the weave itself, so far it’s been handling all the required moves :)

Ohhhh I soooo want to make these now!! Just like you I was a bit dubious when I saw them in the mag, cos obviously I am a good deal shorter and “wider” than the model but they look absolutely fabulous on you! I very much like the zips on them and also your top fits perfectly.

And I love your short hair do :-)

Your pants are really great, very good fit. I made them, and had to take in the waist too. I just find the bottom a bit too large. I find the style lines very nice on these pants.

finally someone has made these pants! they have also cached my eyes in the magazine. I like the ones you’ve made and I think you have achieved nice fitting. Also, I’m delighted to find out that this one could be made in non stretch fabric. all in all, yours are great and you look beautiful wearing them. :)

Thank you so much! They can be made in non-stretch fabric as long as it’s a knit fabric, but I think it’s better with a bit of stretch

Wow you look great in these, like you I kind of skip over the patterns that require a stick figure to fit into, but you have made an excellent choice with these, again they look fab!

I think they look greater on you than on the model! You should make many versions of this!
