Petite print dress

Added Jul 1, 2017

by France Langlois

Dress with inserts on the sides, a V neck and back, and decorative stiches. But the details get a bit lost in the print of the fabric – in the picture it seems worst than it is in reality.

Zip instructions were way too long ! And no where was there a mention of understitching those facings after reducing and notching their allowance. I also overstitched the pockets edges and the folds on the skirt as I progressed rather than at the end. There were no instructions on properly hemming a mitred vent flap for a nice finish. Not a complicated pattern but you need to have some sewing experience.

The side panels where a challenge for me. Maybe because of the fabric but i did not achieve the sharp corners others did. I ended up cheating with my iron and overstitching to hold everything onto place. I might know how to do a mitred corner but these panels almost had me give up! Maybe more tips would have been nice in the instructions.
The skirt was a charm to make and I love those pockets.
I might sew again once I figure out those side panels. If I do, I will line it instead of having those facings. Will probably sew the bottom as a skirt.

Material Notes

Stretch cotton sateen with a print. Very comfortable.
