Perfect copy of me

Today I finished a sewing course in which I made a sewing dummy with my exact measurements. As you can see I’m very happy to a) finally have a sewing dummy and b) that it’s also decorative!

The technique we used is a little complicated. It took us two Saturdays to do it. On the first Saturday we drew a basic bodice block, which we then adjusted quite a bit. According to that pattern we sewed the inner body from a sturdy cotton fabric. The outer cover is exactly the same as the inner cover, just prettier.

This last Saturday we filled the dummy with a pipe (to put it on a stand), foam material and sawdust (very messy!). The covers are pulled at the bottom with a string.

I don’t feel comfortable to do a tutorial, first because I didn’t come up with it myself, and second because I don’t think I remember all the steps correctly, sorry!

Edit: I don’t have a name for her yet, any suggestions?

Wow, that’s such a great idea to make a dressform from your own sloper. Where those the adjustments you speak of, i.e. making a general sloper fit different body types? or did you have to adjust the sloper otherwise in order to become a dressform? I so want one for me, it’s way better then a duct tape form!!!

We drew the sloper according to our measurements. Then we put on the canvas inner part and pinned out the excess or let it out in the required areas. So it really is almost my body shape.

Hi ! Will you please do a tutorial on how you created “perfect copy of me”? What method did you use? What did you stuff it with? Inquiring minds would like to know…I would like to know. (smile) Thank you very much for sharing this.

Really good! How did you draft the pattern for the cover? Also, any advice how to convince my mom to help me with mine… I’ve got everything ready and I only need an extra pair of hands!

Wow, it does look perfect! Amazing. Did you use paper tape to make a mold and then filled it with something, or it was some more complicated technique?
