Butterick 5895: MISSES’ TOP AND JEANS: Loose-fitting top has front extending into collar and tie ends, and narrow hem on sleeves/back hemline. Note: no provisions provided for above waist adjustment. Semi-fitted, tapered jeans (rolled-up, wrong side shows) have waistband, side front pockets, stitched hems, and back zipper.
[I only used the blouse portion of this pattern.]

The skirt I am wearing is another Gertie design, Butterick 5882, which I modified by discarding the bodice pieces, and adding a simple waistband.

This blouse is quite easy to make up. There are very few pieces to contend with, and everything is laid out very nicely.

I decided to make my life easier and make no alterations to this pattern. I had a feeling the blouse was going to be on the short side (I usually add 3/4" to the torso length of Butterick patterns) but with the attached collar piece and tie, it is a challenge to figure out just how short without constructing everything. And boy was I right! This blouse it SHORT as drafted. If you are planning to wear a low-rise jean or skirt there will be significant midriff exposure – which might be very cute, but is not something I am comfortable with!

The only other change was more cosmetic – I used a contrasting fabric to cut the rather large front facing pieces. This was not my original choice, but due to the fact that I did not have enough fabric left after cutting out the full skirt that matches back. This top is not going to work with leftover scraps of fabric!

This was not quite what I expected when I started the project, but I am thrilled with the result!

You’ve taken a pattern I wouldn’t have looked twice at, and made it your own. I love that print on the garment you made!
