Paladin Coat

Grand Rapids, Mi...

This is one of the looks I used in my student collection, “A Modern Medieval Fairytale.” My inspiration for the collection was posed by the question, “What would medieval fairies wear today?” The theme for the show this year was “Time” and designers were asked to re-interpret time periods.

This coat was created from a neat brocade fabric that I found at a random fabric store. It features a stovepipe inset collar, a ruffle that goes from one shoulder to the other, studs, and a gathered “skirt” one each hip only. The coat is fully lined and has horsehair braid in the hem to keep it from collapsing in.

I think this is my favourite piece of yours! I love the structure and fabric, but the name is almost essential to the feeling associated with the coat. Drool-worthy, if I ever saw such!

Thank you very much! It was the first piece I made for our collection. I draped the pattern and fell in love with it.
