Over the shoulder Ruffle Dress

I saw this dress on the website ASOS and wanted to wear it to a friends birthday party, however there wasn’t enough time for it to be shipped over. So I decided to make it instead! No pattern, I just used the outline of a similar stretchy dress, exculded one shoulder/strap and cut the two layers of ruffle out of a floral Chiffon fabric I had at home. It worked out much better than expected and looks just like the original! I have attached a picture of both my version and the original to show you the difference.

Material Notes

White stretch fabric
Ruffles cut from two large circles (of differing widths)
White Bias Binding to finish it off

Garment Type
Evening Wear
Chiffon, Blends

It looks identical to the asos one so well done. I do this as well for myself abd my daughter, mainly because it works out cheaper and a better fit. This is lovely on you. How did you work out thr ruffle length?? Was it 1 1/2 or 2 times the width you used x

For the ruffles I made two large doughnut shaped pattern pieces – the inner circle of both had the same diameter as the diameter of the top opening of my dress, with the outer circles being drawn at a certain distance/width from the inner starting circle. (as one ruffle was wider than the other, the one circle had a larger outer diameter compared to the other). I hope that makes sense? I didn’t choose to use the method of cutting rectangles and gathering them.

Thanks for the info. The dress looks lovely with the ruffles in a chiffon fabric x
